OLUDENIZ
It takes less than 10 minutes by dolmus to reach the beach at Oludeniz with its world famous ‘Blue Lagoon’. Literally translated as ‘Dead sea’, the sheltered waters of this natural lagoon provide gently shelved beaches that are excellent for young and old alike. The lagoon is designated as a national park and as such a snorkel and mask are essential to appreciate the colourful marine life of this sheltered cove.
Oludeniz also has another beautiful, sweeping sand and shingle beach called Belcekiz. This stretches across the front of the main resort of Oludeniz and is lined with a range of great beach bars, excellent shops and restaurants.
Oludeniz has an extremely laid back atmosphere offering the opportunity to watch the sun set from one of the many beach front bars and restaurants. Most have open roof terraces where you can enjoy the spectacle of seeing paragliders descend from the summit of Mt. Babadag (6500ft) and circle in the sky before landing gently on the beach.
Oludeniz is home to a number of professional paragliding companies. If you'd like to try something a little different on holiday you could partake in a tandem paragliding flight (with a qualified pilot of course!) from the top of Mount Babadag. This once in a lifetime experience is not to be missed!
The area is a mecca for paragliders from across the globe giving it a very cosmopolitan feel. If you are a qualified pilot and have brought your own paraglider, transport to the top of the mountain can be booked with most of these local companies.
A wide range of watersports is also available on the beach. A new ten pin bowling alley was opened in Oludeniz a few years ago which is very popular for all ages. This chilled out resort caters for a wide range of people, but provides something a little different at the same time.
